James Burleson

Managing Director, President, and Principal in the Investment Industry

James Burleson has built a career spanning more than thirty years, combining finance, entrepreneurship, and community service. He has founded businesses, overseen investments, and supported ventures that focus on both innovation and lasting impact. Alongside his professional accomplishments, he has continually dedicated time and resources to philanthropy and civic involvement, making service an integral part of his life.

His financial journey began at a young age. At just 24, he became one of the youngest seat holders and market makers on the Pacific Stock Exchange. His leadership qualities were soon evident, and he was elected as the youngest Chair of the Nominating Committee for the Board of Governors. These milestones distinguished him in a highly competitive field. Over time, James went on to hold senior positions at firms including Letco LMM, Joseph D. Heard Jr. Inc., Premier Trading Group, and Charles Schwab. While serving as Partner and Lead Market Maker at Letco, he contributed to the firm’s growth until it was acquired by Toronto Dominion Bank in 2002. His expertise in derivatives and trading strategies became a cornerstone of his career and set the stage for his later ventures.

In 2004, he launched Burleson + Company, an independent advisory firm that expanded to manage nearly $800 million in assets under management. The firm stood out for its focus on wealth management and comprehensive planning, combining traditional approaches with strategies that aligned financial decisions with long-term life goals. He later broadened his professional reach through Northern Peak Consulting, where he advised individuals and organizations on strategy and growth. His entrepreneurial vision also extended to venture capital through BCo Venture Fund I, which invested in early-stage companies. Among these was Pathwater, a bottled water company that introduced a sustainable model and encouraged change in consumer behavior.

Community service has always been central to his life. For nearly two decades, he has served on the Sonoma–Marin Fair Board, where he has supported youth development, agricultural education, and cultural programs. James also spent more than a decade with the Rotary Club of Petaluma, including service as Treasurer of its foundation. For over twenty years, he has been a member of the St. Vincent Parish Finance Committee and served on the Board of St. Vincent High School. Over the past 25 years, he has also contributed to organizations such as the Petaluma Educational Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Polly Klaas Foundation.

Raised in a military family, he learned discipline, adaptability, and responsibility at an early age. After earning a finance degree from the University of Texas at Austin, he stayed connected to his alma mater and his fraternity, Sigma Chi. Away from his professional commitments, he enjoys skiing with his children, golfing in the Utah mountains, traveling, and following the stock market.

James Burleson’s story reflects how leadership, entrepreneurship, and service can come together to create lasting influence. His career and community involvement show a consistent dedication to growth, responsibility, and family, leaving a legacy built on purpose and commitment.
